BENGALURU:
In a slap on the face of BBMP corporators whose tenure comes to end on September 10, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has nixed the decision to distribute laptops at a cost of Rs 115 crore. The funds were originally meant for developmental activities in various wards.
When a BJP insider alerted the CM to the funds diversion, he ordered an immediate halt to the distribution of laptops.
Sources told theBengaluruLive that the CM has sought a report from BBMP chief N Manjunatha Prasad and has ordered him to adhere to the rules under the KMC Act.

“BBMP corporators, irrespective of political party, decided to distribute laptops to needy students in their respective wards after the lockdown was imposed and online education was being promoted,” said a BJP corporator who had taken the initiative along with the former Commissioner to issue the job codes.
After the CM, who is also in charge of Bengaluru’s development, called a halt to the laptop scheme, several corporators, irrespective of political party, met the BBMP Commissioner to try and salvage the scheme on Thursday evening, but to no avail.
Meanwhile, Opposition party leader Abdul Wajid alleged that it was BJP corporators who had demanded distribution of laptops to needy and poor students.
