Bengaluru: BJP Parliamentary Board member and former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has slammed Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge’s statement on banning the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), calling it an “insane remark” and demanded that Kharge apologise to the people of the country.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters in Malleshwaram, Yediyurappa said, “Kharge has publicly stated that if Congress comes to power at the Centre, it will ban the RSS. But he must remember that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and many of us have grown through the RSS ranks, which have a nationwide influence and legacy.”
Taking strong objection to the Congress leader’s comments, the BJP veteran added, “First of all, Congress coming to power is only a dream. It is certain that Narendra Modi will return as Prime Minister with a clear majority in the next elections. Such irresponsible and reckless statements only damage your own credibility. I urge Priyank Kharge to refrain from making such statements and to issue a public apology.”
Yediyurappa further warned that such divisive rhetoric could alienate the public and backfire politically on the Congress party ahead of the 2024 general elections.
