Bengaluru: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday staged a massive protest in Yelahanka, the assembly constituency of Karnataka’s Revenue Minister, demanding clearance of alleged encroachments on government land and a crematorium in Kogilu Layout.
The protest was held near the Yelahanka Tahsildar’s office, with BJP leaders alleging that despite repeated complaints, authorities have failed to act on encroachments at Survey Nos. 18, 22, 99, and 100 in Kogilu Layout.
Leaders and Allegations
BJP state secretary H.C. Tammesh Gowda, Byatarayanapura City Mandal president Krishnamurthy, Byatarayanapura Rural Mandal president Hanumanth Gowda, and other party leaders took part in the agitation. They accused the government of allowing encroachments on government land and even a burial ground, calling it negligence on the part of revenue officials.
Protest and Police Action
The protest saw BJP workers attempting to lay siege to the Tahsildar’s office while raising slogans against the Minister. Police intervened, leading to heated exchanges between officers and protesters. As a precautionary measure, the Yelahanka taluk office gate was shut and police personnel were deployed to prevent entry.
Several BJP workers were taken into custody and transported in a BMTC bus, with leaders alleging that the government was suppressing their agitation. They warned that if encroachments were not cleared immediately, they would intensify their protest by laying siege to the Minister’s residence.
