According to a study, apes respond considerably more intensely to images of their buddies and can identify groupmates they haven’t seen in over 25 years. The research was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal. It shows the longest-lasting social memory ever observed outside of humans and highlights how human culture originated from the common origins we share with apes, our closest cousins.
