Bengaluru: In a significant move to tighten regulations on outdoor advertisements, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has directed strict action against unauthorized self-advertisements, illegal hoardings, banners and flexes across the city.
According to a circular issued by Munish Moudgil, IAS, Special Commissioner (Admin, Revenue, IT), the BBMP Advertisement Bylaws 2024 have completely replaced the previous rules. As per the latest framework, there is no provision for granting approval for self-advertisements, which neither require official permission nor are liable to pay any advertisement tax.

The circular, addressed to all Commissioners and Additional Commissioners, makes it clear that self-advertisements must adhere to strict size restrictions — not exceeding the maximum frontage length and a vertical height of 4 feet. Any flex, board, or hoarding that breaches these limits is deemed unauthorized, illegal, and subject to demolition with penalties.
The order further states that all such illegal hoardings, banners, and flex boards must be removed immediately with full enforcement, including penalties for violators. The civic body has also warned that commercial establishments displaying oversized or unauthorized boards will face strict action.

The directive is part of the city’s broader crackdown on visual pollution, illegal hoardings, and safety hazards in Bengaluru’s urban spaces, ensuring cleaner streets and stricter compliance with the new advertisement bylaws.
