Bengaluru: A major tragedy was narrowly averted late Thursday night on Indiranagar’s busy 100 Feet Road after a drunk driver lost control of his car, jumped the central divider, and rammed into a popular restaurant, sending shockwaves through the bustling nightlife hub.

The incident occurred around 11:35 pm, when a Skoda car, driven by 42-year-old Derrick, was seen speeding down 18th Main Road towards 100 Feet Road, according to CCTV footage accessed by police.

Investigators said the driver was unable to negotiate a scheduled left turn due to excessive speed and intoxication. The vehicle mounted the divider, hit a parked two-wheeler, and then crashed into the exterior wall of the restaurant.

The CCTV visuals show a group of pedestrians standing close to the spot escaping the speeding car by mere inches, triggering panic among bystanders. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, despite the severity of the crash and the heavy movement of vehicles and people in the area at the time.

Confirming the incident, Bengaluru Traffic Police stated that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The vehicle has been seized, and a case has been registered under rash and negligent driving provisions.

Authorities reiterated that drunk driving remains a serious threat to public safety, especially in high-footfall zones like Indiranagar, and warned of strict action against violators.
