Covid-19 shaves off our netas’ pickings!
BENGALURU:
Covid-19 has cast its shadow not just over salaried employees and contract labour, leaving them in the dark about their next payment, but also over the traditionally entitled political class. Karnataka’s lawmakers, including the Chief Minister himself, will get to experience a monetary pinch first-hand as a ‘democratic’ coronavirus ‘infects’ 30 per cent of their emoluments with effect from the start of this fiscal, April 1.
The pay-and-perks cut was effected on Thursday via The Karnataka Legislature Salaries, Pensions And Allowances and Certain Other Laws (amendment) Ordinance 2020.
Salaries of lawmakers will be cut by 30 per cent from April 1. Apart from salaries, pensions, miscellaneous allowances, telephone expenditure, election allowance, postage, room attendant allowance, electoral field travel allowance, scheduled flight and rail travel allowance have also been reduced by 30 per cent.
