
DCM says e-registration of students will start from high school
BENGALURU:
At a review meeting of the Higher Education Department on Tuesday, Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa pushed for online classes in the context of the Covid-19 outbreak.
He said 79 per cent of the PU syllabus was completed before the lockdown, and by May 31 the remainder could be completed through online teaching.
Officials said over 30,000 online classes have been conducted through WebX, Skype and other online platforms. E-Notes, PPT and old question papers have been distributed to 85 per cent of students through WhatsApp and Telegram.
Around 7,074 instructional videos on 65 subjects have been uploaded through the Jynana Nidhi YouTube channel, which has received 5 lakh views.
More than 2 million students have been reached through the GetCETGo app, with 13,600 students subscribing to the YouTube lessons.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan said a comprehensive management system is being implemented through the Department of e-Governance at a cost of Rs. 11 crore. The UGC guidelines are being followed and it is proposed that the current academic year be completed by June 15.
With the creation of Youth Empowerment Centres, students will be provided comprehensive information through an online portal. Registration of students will commence from the high school level.
Chief Secretary TM Vijaya Bhaskar, Chief Minister’s Advisor M Lakshminarayanan, Finance Department Additional Chief Secretary ISN Prasad, Higher Education Department Additional Chief Secretary Dr E V Ramanareddy and College Education Department Commissioner Pradeep were present at the meeting.
