BSY was known to take all precautions in his engagements
BENGALURU:
Stung by the CM’s own announcement of his contracting the coronavirus, the entire administration is scrambling for answers on how he could have got infected.
Ever since the lockdown was announced in March, the Chief Minister was mostly conducting virtual meetings and taking all required precautions while conducting physical meetings at his home office ‘Krishna’. He was also avoiding meeting too many people.
“This was a routine test conducted on Yediyurappa and his family members staying at his private residence ‘Dhavalgiri’ in RMV Layout. First, the CM himself got a positive report, and later his daughter Padmavati was also found positive for the coronavirus,” said a health department official.
Till the last moment, neither BBMP not even health department officials were aware of the development.
Tracing underway
The Chief Minister’s office and other departments have swung into action to check his daily routine over the past 3-4 days and the details of people who had come to see him from various parts of Karnataka.
As per the record of his official engagements, the Chief Minister attended two major events — a Metro-related one at Shivajinagar and a Keonics event at HSR Layout recently.
But sources have pointed out that the Chief Minister’s office has witnessed several positive cases among personnel posted there in the last couple of months, including a driver (who did not drive the CM’s car), a woman constable whose husband had tested positive, and an electrician.
“We are shocked to know that the CM has come in contact with the virus but we have no clue to source. We are conducting all kinds of checks on the people whom he had met in the last couple of days. We are also checking the details of those who have come in contact with the virus near his residence — both in the RMV Extension and near the Chief Minister’s official residence,” said an officer.
