Bengaluru: Jayanagar BJP MLA CK Ramamurthy has strongly denied allegations that inappropriate messages were sent to a woman from his Instagram account, calling the claims baseless, malicious, and politically motivated.
Addressing media queries, Ramamurthy said a fake Instagram account impersonating him had been created and misused to circulate screenshots and messages, with the intention of damaging his public image.
‘I Did Not Send Any Such Message’
Clarifying his stand, the MLA said he uses Instagram solely to share information about his public work and development activities.
“I have over 65,000 followers on Instagram and follow only around 35 people. I use the platform only for public communication. I have not sent any such message to anyone,” Ramamurthy said.
He added that he was not even in Bengaluru for three to four days when the alleged messages were sent, as he was attending to a serious family emergency following a road accident.
Fake Accounts, Past Hacking Attempts
Ramamurthy revealed that this was not the first time his social media presence had been misused.
“My Facebook account was hacked twice in the past, and messages seeking money were sent in my name. I had filed cyber crime complaints even then,” he said.
He claimed that another Instagram account has now been created using his name and photo, which he described as a deliberate impersonation attempt.
Cyber Crime Complaint Filed
The Jayanagar MLA confirmed that he has formally lodged a complaint with the Banashankari Cyber Crime Police, and has also consulted legal counsel to initiate action against those responsible.
“This is an attempt to malign my reputation built over 30 years in public life. I have never faced such allegations before. Legal action will be taken against everyone involved,” he asserted.
Political Motive Alleged
Ramamurthy alleged that certain political elements were attempting to exploit the issue for political gain.
“This is being done deliberately to create confusion and disturb the political atmosphere. I appeal to the public not to fall for rumours and misinformation,” he said.
Police sources confirmed that a cyber investigation is underway to trace the origin of the fake account and the individuals behind the viral posts.
