Bengaluru: In what can only be described as a miraculously ambitious deadline, Additional Chief Secretary for Urban Development, Tushar Giri Nath, has directed officials and contractors to complete the long-pending Hosakerehalli flyover works within just 15 days.
The directive — issued during a field inspection near Outer Ring Road close to P.E.S. College in Rajarajeshwari Nagar Zone — has left engineers, contractors, and even citizens wondering whether concrete cures faster under administrative pressure than it does in real life.
The 500-meter-long flyover, which has been dragging on for months, currently presents a sight of unfinished ramps, uneven wet mix, and — for those with an eye for detail — steel rods confidently waving at the sky. According to officials, wet mix has been completed on one side, but asphalting and finishing work remain pending on both ramps. The project was reportedly delayed due to heavy rains, but now the deadline seems tighter than the rebar itself.

Giri Nath, during his inspection, is said to have firmly instructed officials to expedite all remaining work “without any further delay”, urging the team to make the impossible appear possible — at least on paper.
Meanwhile, Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed contractors to repair damaged portions of the service roads and remove construction debris once the work is complete. Rao emphasized that the area must be “visibly clean and roadworthy,” though locals might be forgiven for doubting whether there’ll be enough time left to polish the final product.
Also present during the inspection were Chief Engineers Raghavendra Prasad and Swayamprabha, along with Executive Engineers and senior GBA officials — most of whom, it is safe to assume, were silently calculating how to stretch 15 days into 45.
While citizens have long awaited relief from traffic snarls at Hosakerehalli Junction, the latest 15-day ultimatum has sparked amusement — and skepticism — in equal measure. Because in Bengaluru, flyovers may take years to rise, but deadlines, it seems, can now fly.
About Hosakerehalli Flyover
The Hosakerehalli Flyover, located on Bangalore’s Outer Ring Road near Hosakerehalli Junction, was launched on September 1, 2015 with the aim of easing congestion along the signal-heavy corridor between Mysore Road and Central Silk Board.
The original target was to complete construction by March 1, 2016, but multiple delays pushed the timeline far beyond that date. The flyover, spanning about 263–300 metres, was eventually inaugurated on September 16, 2017, nearly two years after its intended completion.
Over time, the project has become a symbol of delays in urban infrastructure. Even in 2025, officials continue to scramble to complete remaining works. In May 2025, Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao set a three-month deadline to wrap up the outstanding tasks, including service roads, ramps, and debris clearance. Recent reports suggest the flyover is roughly 75% complete, but critical elements remain unfinished — a fact that officials are pushing contractors to address urgently.
