CALIFORNIA:
Google has introduced a native translation integration within the Gmail mobile app, allowing users to translate emails and seamlessly communicate in a wide range of languages.
“This highly requested feature will help users read and understand a conversation in any language,” Google said.
When you receive a message in a language that doesn’t match your preferred language settings, a dismissible banner will appear at the top of the email. This banner lets you “Translate” the message with a single tap. Upon selecting this option, you can choose your preferred language for translation.
The dismissible banner can be set to appear whenever the content language of an email differs from your established “Google.com Mail display language.” Moreover, Gmail allows you to personalize your translation preferences. You can opt to always translate messages in specific languages or, conversely, never translate messages in certain languages.
If you choose to dismiss the translation option, the banner will discreetly reappear the next time you receive an email in a language that does not match your chosen display language. However, Gmail provides a convenient way to permanently disable the banner for specific languages. By accepting the prompt that appears when you dismiss the banner or navigating to the translation settings menu, you can choose to never see the banner for a particular language again.
In cases where a user has explicitly opted out of automatic translation or the system has failed to detect an alternate language, manual translation is just a few taps away. By accessing the three-dot menu, users can initiate the translation process manually.
For Android users, the feature will be gradually released to Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, with visibility expected within 15 days from August 8, 2023. On the other hand, iOS users can anticipate a gradual rollout, with feature visibility anticipated within 15 days from August 21, 2023.
The new language translation feature in Gmail is available to all Google Workspace customers as well as individual users with personal Google Accounts.PTI
