Bengaluru: The formal notification for the creation of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) along with five city corporations is likely to be issued on or before September 1, 2025, paving the way for municipal elections early next year.
According to official sources, the draft notification for GBA formation was issued on July 19, inviting public objections over a 30-day period ending on August 18. The government is expected to take about 20 days for scrutiny and processing, after which the final formation notification will be released.
Key Administrative Timeline for GBA Formation and Elections:

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who also oversees Bengaluru development, announced that the Ward Delimitation Commission will begin redrawing ward boundaries under GBA.
“The commission will carry out ward boundary identification, invite objections, and complete its work in a month. The reservation process will follow and once the final report is ready, it will be submitted to the courts. After that, we’ll prepare for elections,” DCM Shivakumar told reporters following a meeting with GBA officials.
The State Election Commission has already informed the Supreme Court that it requires two months to conduct the election process once it receives the final ward lists and electoral rolls.
The delimitation process is expected to be completed in 30 days, after which objections will be invited and ward reservations finalised. The handover of the final voter lists and ward boundaries is tentatively scheduled for November 1, 2025.
With the entire process culminating by early January, Bengaluru’s five restructured city corporations under GBA could head to polls in February or March 2026.
