Mysuru/Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has emphasized that while Mysuru must evolve into a “Greater Mysuru”, the city’s rich heritage, culture, and traditional grandeur should not be compromised.
Presiding over the first review meeting of the “Greater Mysuru” project at the Mysuru City Corporation office, the CM issued a series of clear directives to the district administration to ensure scientific, sustainable, and culturally sensitive urban expansion.
“Prepare a Scientific Blueprint — No Bengaluru-like Chaos”
Siddaramaiah directed officials to prepare a comprehensive and scientific master plan for the project, ensuring Mysuru does not face the same urban challenges as Bengaluru.
“Traffic congestion, sewage mismanagement, broken footpaths, drinking water shortage, or STP issues — none of these problems should arise in the future Mysuru,” he said firmly.
The CM instructed officials to work on a forward-looking blueprint that anticipates the city’s needs for the next 15–20 years rather than focusing only on current population data.
Key Directives from CM Siddaramaiah
- Planned Urban Growth: Greater Mysuru should be well-organized, sustainable, and infrastructure-ready.
- Long-Term Planning: Plan infrastructure for the next 15–20 years with modern urban science and population projections.
- Zero Traffic Chaos: Ensure Mysuru remains congestion-free with effective traffic management and ring road expansion.
- Smart Waste Management: Introduce advanced solid and industrial waste disposal systems using latest technologies.
- Sewage & Utilities: Develop underground drainage, pipelines, electricity, and parks in every newly developed layout.
- Infrastructure Upgrade: Plan for an additional outer ring road to decongest the growing city.
- Revenue & Resources: Prepare realistic financial plans to increase civic revenue for infrastructure expansion.
- Workforce Strengthening: Increase the number of pourakarmikas (civic workers) in proportion to population growth.
Vision for “Greater Mysuru”
CM Siddaramaiah highlighted that Mysuru’s identity lies in its cleanliness, orderliness, and cultural depth, and this transformation should enhance rather than erase its essence.
“Mysuru’s wide roads are its pride. Greater Mysuru must build upon this legacy with even more structured and scientific planning,” the CM said.
The administration was tasked with preparing a holistic report that integrates heritage conservation with modern development goals, positioning Mysuru as a model city for Karnataka and India.
