The rampaging coronavirus is forcing observers to even use cricketing terms. So, the number of cases (‘runs’) ‘accumulated’ on Tuesday by Covid-19 in Karnataka is just 12 short of legendary batsman Brian Lara’s world record of 400 runs
In the highest single-day spike yet, Karnataka recorded 388 positive cases by Tuesday evening, of which as many as 367 are returnees from neighbouring states.
Udupi and Kalaburagi districts have now overtaken the state capital of Bengaluru in the number of positive cases reported and also in the number of active cases.
Karnataka’s total tally is now 3,796, and Udupi has witnessed the highest single-day spike of 150 cases among all the districts of the state. The district now has a Covid tally of 410, of which 346 are active cases. Kalaburagi is a close second with a spike with 100 positives, a total tally of 405, and 270 active cases.
Yadagiri comes third with a total of 290 cases and 148 active cases. The district has seen 5 positive cases reported in the last 24 hours. Mandya (289 cases reported) district has 208 active patients and reported 4 positive cases on Tuesday.
Raichur and Bengaluru Urban are at fifth and sixth places respectively. Raichur (233 cases) reported 16 positive cases while it has 195 active cases and Bengaluru Urban (397 cases) reported 12 positive cases and has 148 active cases. Belagavi also reported its single-day highest number of 51 positive cases and now has 211 reported cases, of which 93 are active.
Maharashtra is connected to all 150 cases of Udupi and 100 cases of Kalaburagi. A total of 75 people were released from hospitals in the last 24 hours. Of the total of 388 cases reported statewide, 367 have a transit history. The state did not report a single death in the last 24 hours. Karnataka now has 2,339 active cases, while 1,403 have been discharged.
Zero cases in 11 districts
Districts like Dakshina Kannada, Mysuru, Uttara Kannada, Bellary, Shivamogga, Chitradurga, Gadag, Chikkamagalur, Koppal, Kodagu and Ramanagar did not report a single positive case while Udupi reported 150, Kalaburagi 100, Bengaluru 12, Yadagiri 5, Mandya 4, Raichur 16, Belagavi 51, Hassan 9, Bidar 10, Davanagere 7, Chikkaballapur 2, Vijayapura 4, Bagalkot 9, Dharwad and Tumkuru 2 each, Kolar 1, Bangalore Rural 3 and Haveri 1.
