Mangaluru: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially assumed control of the investigation into the murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty, who was brutally killed in Bajpe on May 1st.
An NIA team, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Pawan Kumar, arrived in Mangaluru on Saturday to begin coordinating with local law enforcement.
Mangaluru police confirmed the NIA’s arrival and indicated that preliminary information had already been shared with the City Crime Branch (CCB). The transfer of the case was recently ordered by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, reflecting the gravity of the situation.
According to official sources, the Ministry has mandated the NIA to investigate the “targeted killing” of Shetty, classifying it as a deliberate act intended to “create terror in the minds of people.”
The Home Ministry communique further alleges that the accused individuals involved in the murder are suspected members of the Popular Front of India (PFI), an organization currently banned in India.
The demand for an NIA-led investigation had been vocally championed by several state BJP leaders, highlighting the sensitivity and potential implications of the case.
Police sources corroborated the suspicion that Shetty’s murder was carried out by a group of eight youths with alleged ties to the PFI. As the CCB’s investigating officer finalizes the handover, the NIA’s involvement signifies a commitment to uncovering the full truth behind this heinous crime and ensuring that justice is served.
The focus now shifts to the NIA’s investigation to determine the extent of the alleged PFI involvement and bring all those responsible to account.
