The Covid pandemic has cast its shadow over even hoary traditions. For the first time in its history, the famous Kukke Subramanya temple celebrated the ‘Nagarapanchami’ festival on Saturday sans the presence of devotees.
Since social distancing would have been a nightmare on the festival day, the entry of devotees was completely banned.
However, the priests conducted all the pujas and performed the ‘abhishekam’ of the deity with milk. Apart from the priests, only the temple staff were present.
Every year, millions of devotees visit Kukke Subramanya on the day of Nagarapanchami. Only this time, a handful of devotees were seen praying outside the temple.
