First-grader Mahanya tells Suresh Kumar firmly, “Open schools only after corona goes”
BENGALURU:
The Karnataka government’s proposal of reopening schools in July has run into opposition not just from parents, even a tiny tot has chipped in with her opinion that schools should stay shut till the coronavirus threat recedes.
On Thursday, Mahanya, a first-grader, came face-to-face with Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Suresh Kumar. Sharing the incident on Facebook, the minister said: “My little friend came and stood in front of me while I was heading towards Vidhana Soudha.”
Mahanya said, “I have seen you on TV. When does school start?” Suresh asked her, “When to start?” The girl replied, “After corona is gone.”
Suresh Kumar asked her, “If corona does not go away for a very long time…?” She replied firmly, “No, open school after corona goes.”
When he asked, “What will you do if the school is not open?” little Mahanya replied unhesitatingly, “I will be at home, watch TV, play games.”
The minister-tiny tot encounter was captured on video by Mahanya’s mother. Suresh Kumar seemed quite pleased interacting with a confident and witty little interviewer!
