BENGALURU: Karnataka is set to raise milk prices by Rs 4 per litre starting April 1, according to state Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna. This decision was made in response to the demands of milk federations and farmers.
During a press conference in Bengaluru, Minister Rajanna explained that the milk federation had requested a Rs 5 increase per litre, and the government agreed to a Rs 4 hike effective April 1. He emphasized that the entire Rs 4 increase will go directly to the farmers.
This price adjustment follows recent increases in bus and metro fares, as well as power tariffs. Bheema Naik, chairman of the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), had previously suggested that a milk price hike was likely.
The KMF sells its dairy products under the Nandini brand. In 2024, the KMF raised milk prices by Rs 2 per packet while also increasing the quantity per packet by 50ml. The KMF clarified that the price adjustment in 2024 was not a hike, as the quantity of milk supplied had also increased.
Currently, a 1,050 ml packet of regular Nandini toned milk (blue packet) is priced at Rs 44.
