Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has made it clear that the much-debated caste census and social-economic survey will go ahead from September 22 as scheduled, dismissing speculation about any delay.
“The caste census survey will begin from September 22 as planned and will not be postponed despite opposition,” the Chief Minister stressed, underscoring the government’s firm stance on the matter.
His remarks came amid reports of unease among some ministers during a recent cabinet meeting. Siddaramaiah, however, turned the attack on the BJP, accusing it of exploiting the issue for political gain.
“The BJP is politicising this survey and falsely labelling the Congress government as anti-Hindu. Such charges must be strongly countered by every minister,” he said.
He further noted that the Backward Classes Commission, a statutory body under the Constitution, is independently conducting the survey. “Neither the government nor political parties can halt the process. The commission has already taken opinions and will move ahead,” Siddaramaiah clarified.
