Bengaluru: In a tragic incident, a 63-year-old man lost his life due to electrocution while attempting to drain rainwater that had flooded his home, police reported on Tuesday.
The victim has been identified as Manmohan Kamath, a resident of Madhuvan Apartment in NS Palya, near BTM 2nd Stage. According to the Mico Layout Police, Kamath was using a motorized pump to remove water from his residence on Monday evening when the accident occurred.
“When he connected the pump to an electrical socket, a short circuit ensued, resulting in his electrocution,” stated a police officer involved in the investigation.
In a heartbreaking turn of events, Dinesh, a 12-year-old boy and the son of a Nepalese worker at the apartment complex, was standing nearby and also suffered electrocution. Both individuals were pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The Station Head Officer confirmed that Unnatural Death Reports (UDRs) will be filed in both cases.
This incident marks a grim milestone, as the pre-monsoon rains have now claimed three lives. Earlier on Monday, a 35-year-old woman named Sasikala tragically died when a compound wall collapsed on her while she was sweeping at a company within the jurisdiction of the Mahadevapura Police Station.
Authorities urge residents to exercise caution during the rainy season to prevent further tragedies.
