
Tumkuru | Three arrested for eating national bird peacock meat
TUMKURU:
Three individuals have been apprehended in Tumkur, specifically in Maranayakanapally, for the consumption of peacock meat, the national bird of India.
The accused, Bitting Naik, Baishak Dau, and Duba Kapat, all hailing from Odisha, were employed at a brick factory in Maranayakanapally. Over the course of several days, these individuals had been hunting and feasting on peacocks. Acting on a tip-off, forest officials conducted a raid to investigate the matter.
During the operation, authorities confiscated 1.5 kg of raw peacock meat, two peacock legs, cooked meat, nets used for capturing the birds, as well as cooking utensils and containers. The seized meat has been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for further examination. The arrested individuals have been charged under the Wildlife Protection Act.
