BENGALURU:
The highest single-day spike so far of 596 new infections in Bengaluru has raised the spectre of a community spread of the dreaded coronavirus. While no minister or official is openly saying so, Medical Education Minister Dr. K Sudhakar, in a media interview, did not specifically deny the possibility of a community spread.
Since the last week, the rising number of Covid infections in Bengaluru has been alarming. The pattern is quite clear — June 21 saw 196 cases, June 22 saw 126 cases, June 23 had 107 cases, June 24 saw 173 cases, June 25 had 113 and June 26 saw 144 cases.
Saturday’s 596 cases far exceeds the previous single-day record of 196 cases on June 21. Besides, Bengaluru has the highest number of active cases in the state at 1,913.
The day’s 3 deaths in Bengaluru were an 83-year-old male, a 70-year-old male and a 74-year-old female.
