BENGALURU:
Amidst the rumors on change of leadership in the state, Chief minister B S Yediyurappa had convened a meeting of all the BJP Lok Sabha members, ostensibly to discuss about the upcoming Panchayat elections in the state.
According to official sources, the convening of the MP’s meeting by the Chief minister had raised eyebrows in the State BJP leadership, as the Central BJP leaders are yet to clear the CM’s proposal to go for the long pending Cabinet rejig in the state.
The cabinet meeting is slated for 10.30 am at the ‘Vidhana Soudha’, and that of party MPs at his home office ‘Krishna’ at 4 pm, official sources said on Thursday.
According to party sources, chief minister Yediyurappa, who had rattled after several of his senior ministers had made a trip to New Delhi, on Thursday, had resorted to convene the meeting of the party MPs, only to demonstrate that he calls the shots in both the Government and the party.
Several senior ministers, including Deputy Chief minister Laxman Savadi, Water Resources minister Ramesh Jarkiholi and the Revenue minister R Ashoka have gone to Delhi, reportedly to attend the program of C T Ravi, who would assume the office of the BJP’s National General Secretary.
The senior ministers, however, also have plans to meet the BJP’s national President J P Nadda during their visit to the national capital.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and the Panchayath Raj minister K S Eshwarappa, had pleaded ignorance about the reports of change of leadership in the state and said that “Nobody has sought the leadership change in the state”.
Chief minister B S Yediyurappa, who had steered the party’s victory in both the Assembly seats for which by elections were held recently had said that he would complete the five-year term in the office and also lead the party to power in the 2023 Assembly elections in the state.
To ward off any rumors on leadership change in the state, the Chief minister had also convened the winter session of the Karnataka Legislature from December 7.
Chief minister had also won the confidence of the house, when the Opposition Congress leader Siddaramaiah had moved a no-confidence motion in the last session of the Karnataka Assembly. (Agency)
